I thought it might be nice to start a thread about "inspirational" Movies and TV - even though S.D.Z.A. started life as a fairly vivid dream - these inspirations must have been at the back of my mind somewhere.
The Carrion are mostly Inspired by the "smart" Zombies from Romero's Land of the Dead (2005) - the idea of the segregated class system and the "Wel-2's" (the Social "Elite" in S.D.Z.A.) and the Walled City's are fairly evident in that Movie too.
The Giaour are in part inspired by the Reavers from Firefly (TV Series 2002–2003) and Serenity (2005), but also by the Roving Bands of Wasteland Psychos from the Mad Max Movies. Mal and his crew are also a big influence on how I envision Freelance Dinosaur Hunters.
The Postman (1997) was also a big influence, with its Barren landscape and Communities separated and alone - not to mention General Bethlehem's (played by the amazing Will Patton)Personal Army being another inspiration for Mercenaries and Freelancers.
The "Hunters", the folks who hunt Mutts and Monsters because its the right thing to do are inspired by Iconic Vampire Hunters and Monster Hunters from Movies and TV - Buffy the Vampire Slayer (TV Series 1997–2003), Supernatural (TV Series 2005– ), and Grimm (TV Series 2011– ) are all influences there - even Van Helsing(2004) and Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters(2013) helped fuse things together in my mind. I've already published one short story on the Facebook Group about Jared and Jensen Colt - I don't think anyone needs to strain a brain cell to work out who the Colt Brothers are based on.
The Primes themselves had no link whatsoever to any Franchise or Comic Book - they just had Superpowers and how they got them was "owt of me oun brayn", the decision to get them sculpted a certain way was purely selfish - as I wanted "those" particular Miniatures for myself LoL!
The Jacob Nexus Character is obviously inspired by Bond, with a dash of Captain Scarlet - but his personality, if I were to quantify it, is more like Captain Jack Harkness than James Bond - his sense of Humour is more cheeky and less superiour.
Uni-Tech is a combination of TV and Movie Elements, the vast Evil Corporations from various Spy-Fi Movies leap to mind - even the Uni-Tech lead Villains in one of the Short Stories, Auric Fröbe and his personal Assistant Katherine "Kitty" Gale are "delightfully familiar" as I was told by someone who read and enjoyed that Story.
But there are elements, some of which I can't really write about openly yet (SPOILERS) without ruining future surprises for people - like The Mutts, the Torem, Doombringer, which are entirely my own creation (expect more of that sort of innovation in the future)
Carl Stoelzel (BooBoo) our own "Artmaster General" has done loads to help me visualize things, Tony Yates (shadowking1957), Simon Quinton (brummie) and Dave Crowther () - our Very Own Rangers have been incredibly helpful and supportive, Tony even helped him with the first Miniature Concepts - so a HUGE thank-you to him for helping me get started.
To be frank, I can't wait to share more of the World with people - you've all shown a surprising amount of interest and been very supportive.
But like I said guys, "No Spoilers"
