Suitable S.D.Z.A. Non-Dinosaur Miniatures Manufacturer List

TODAY I also want to "wax lyrical" about Miniatures (other than Dinosaurs) produced by other Company's that have great crossover potential in S.D.Z.A.

One of my FAVOURITE games of all time is Spinespur - a Horror Game, but rather than being Gothic and Quaint with Vampires and such its a game of Psycho's, Serial Killers, and and other such depravity.

What makes it EXTRA cool is a lot of the Range are great for S.D.Z.A.!!!

Ok, lets go through the suitable Miniatures from the excellent Spinespur Range -

The Thug Blister Pack (that contains 4 Models) is an absolute Corker for Gangers living out in the Barrens, Survivors, Shanty Dwellers, even Giaour.



Each pack contains 4 Thug models, 1 metal sprue of 6 different heads, 1 metal sprue of 3 slashing weapons, and 3 bludgeoning weapons.

As an ADDED bonus, some of the heads are wearing paintball masks, Gasmasks or crash helmets - so no need to paint eyes even (another bugbear).

There is even a separate metal accessories pack of additional close combat weapons and heads available.



Need an 'ex-con' - look no further, Spinespur has the excellent "Dante Hayte" miniature.



There are Thugs with Chainsaws (perfect for Dino Butchery), again using the same separate Head system.



And the Spinespur Character Martin Greygun would be useful as either a Ranger or a Survivor Character.



The do Molotov Thugs as well, one with a Hoody and a Hockey mask, the other utilizes the Head system.



The Men of G.O.D. pack is perfect for either the Elite Uni-Tech Sandmen, or as Government Agents.



And if you want Survivor Kids in your Faction, Comfy Chair do a Spinespur Orphans Pack.



Or if Escaped Lunatics are more your thing there's the Spinespur "Trauma Hounds"



There are other options too, the Shattered - a pack of Citizens who aren't handling whats going on in the world - Or "Sex Star 6" a Heavy Metal Rock star, if you want a really "Rad" Survivor model.

Though there are plenty of other Manufacturers out there who make other suitable models for use with S.D.Z.A. - the Spinespur has to be one of the Top Contenders, if only for their Thugs miniatures.

Todays "suitable miniatures" chat is about the Apex Investigators from Fenris Games - Both sets are perfect for Survivors/Hunters/Mercenaries (the Kill Team in particular are great for Mercenaries/Hunters) in S.D.Z.A. and can be bought individually, or as sets (its interesting to note I am also used Fenris Aftermath Bases for the official S.D.Z.A. miniatures)

Even though the range is small at the moment (but growing) there's still plenty of choice, and I heartily recommend them (the ONLY ones I don't own so far are the Kill Team)

You know, the sculpting on the Apex figures is great, and they are all some well designed figures. But I admit, the last wave of them hit me wrong, the two girls just did not fit in with the look of the rest IMO. Every other figure works well on a science team, in either cold weather or warm weather. The two girls.... ..not so much. But with SDZA, they look like a perfect choice, and I'm now just starting to warm up to them. Funny what context can do.

As for Spinespur, great figures, but I am grateful you didn't show the clown dude. Creepy!

I never though of the Apex investigators as just scientists. I felt it was a paranormal investigation team so had people from all sorts of careers and backgrounds. Strange how people perceive things differently.

I think for Shanty Dwellers and Giaour herder types
Wreck-Age Stakers and Drifters would be useful. These are just the boxed sets and there are a few other sets such as caravaneers and capybara herders which could also come in handy.

Todays Miniature Recomendations come courtesy of Crooked Dice - they have a whole lot of choice for "extras" for S.D.Z.A. - Paramilitary/Security, Scientists, Gangs of Thugs, even Good Old British Bobbies.

They do a lovely Resin Bedford Van I am "roughing up" to use in S.D.Z.A. too.

In addition, they do "head sprues" so you have even MORE Options for Converting S.D.Z.A. Miniatures

Above is the Super Soldier.
In addition to Super-Hero types, they also do armed police, security, goons and thugs. All the figures have separate heads.
The UK supplier is Minibits.

Quick FYI - they are more like 30mm-32mm or "Heroic" scale 28mm, so they are bigger (and some of the heads are HUGE) - Nexus Miniatures are the same scale as Crooked Dice, 28mm (1:56th) and aren't as "lanky" as Crossover.

Across the Dead Earth's miniature range has a great number of figures that can be used for Giaour gangers, Dino Hunters, Corporate Merceneries or just plain old Shanty Dwellers.

I suspect that the Crossover figures vary quite a lot, with the small range I have Assembled (sorry) I have found the variation less than between Warlord and Perry (YMMV).

Here is a comparison shot.

Paramilitary Goon (wip), X-Commando (wip), Super Soldier, classic Pandora and Hoplite.

Removing the integral base I feel helps (and also shaves a fraction of a millimetre off of the height).

That does make a difference, but your Primes in SDZA have more in common with characters from Alphas or Heroes than regular comic book fayre anyway LoL.

The ones I've painted for other people (especially the "goons") seem to have huge heads.
